Junior Athletics
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has assured sports enthusiasts that it will consider spectacular junior athletes in the current season for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Technical Director of AFN,Omatseye Nesiama, who gave the assurance on Friday in Lagos, said that the technical committee would meet in October to take the final decision.

He said that the meeting would determine the athletes the AFN would focus for the Olympics.

``We are going to have a meeting next week to finally determine the athletes to be focused on; I can assure you that the number will not be many for now.

``It will consist of few individual athletes and those that would make the relays, which we have qualified for, we shall consider some junior athletes that have shown spectacular performance this season,’’ he said.

The AFN technical director, who appealed to athletes and coaches to abide by the federation’s code of conduct, said the AFN leadership would not tolerate indiscipline.

He urged sports administrators, parents and spectators to help the federation in achieving its goal.

``We will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from anyone -- athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and spectators; our code of conduct is very clear about indiscipline.

``It is also gratifying to note the support of the National Sports Commission to curb indiscipline in our sport,’’ he said.
