An Akure Chief Magistrates' Court on Wednesday arraigned a 26-year old man, Vincent Ifeanyi, over alleged shop breaking and theft of goods and cash valued at N4,938,000.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Isah Atanegbe, had told the court that the accused conspired with others at large to break into a shop where they stole 85 wrist watches valued at N800, 000 and Samsung Galaxy phones valued at N1.5 million.

Atanegbe said other items stolen by the accused were three cameras valued at N938, 000 and N1.7million cash all valued at N4, 938,000 being property of Odor Ogechukwu Emmanuel.

He alleged that the accused committed the offence at CECI mega plaza supermarket, Alagbaka in Akure, on Sept. 15 at about 7:30 p.m.

According to him, the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 516,413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three- count charge of conspiracy, shop breaking and stealing.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Alex Balogun, prayed the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms, saying that the accused should be presumed innocent.

Alex said that his client was ready to present his father as surety to guarantee that he would not jump bail and would appear in court when needed.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2, 000,000 with one surety in like sum.

Bob-Manuel also directed that the residential address of surety must be provided and verified by the court.

The case was adjourned till Nov.11 for mention.
