The arrest of the pirate radio station, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has taken an international dimension with the member of the British House of Commons Hon. Harriet Harman demanding immediate freedom for him



 Harman  representing Camberbell and Peckham in the British legislature had in a letter to  Mr Philip  Hammond, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth affairs demanded reasons for Kanu's arrest, what he might be charged with and where he is being held.


Harman who stated that Kanu is a British citizen and her constituent further demanded what consular engagement has been made on his behalf.

 The British lawmaker argued that since the pro-Biafra group led by Kanu are non-violent, they should be afforded protection under Article 1 of the charter of the United Nations, UN.

 Harman  has also petitioned the House of Commons over the illegal detention of Kanu  in Nigeria. 

 In her  petition she  requested that the Nigerian government immediately release Nnamdi Kanu or charge him to court for offences committed.

 “Nnamdi is known to lead a secessionist group for the indigenous people of Biafra for a sovereign state. Now, it is pertinent he be released”, she stated 
TheLedger reports that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested  after he flew in from the UK to Nigeria, and was detained at the Tullip Hotel of the Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport Hotel, Lagos on  Wednesday, October 13,  2015.
