The Imo State Police command has confirmed the killing of a youth on Saturday at Nekede community in Owerri West area of the state following an attack by suspected cultists.
According to the police, the deceased, Promise Obi, a native of Amaimo in Ikeduru Area residing in Nekede, was shot dead during a campaign visit, before the election of the executive members of Umumbazu Nekede Youths Association.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Owerri, said some arrests had been made in connection with the killing.
He said also that police patrol teams had been dispatched in and around Nekede to restore peace and security in the area.
He warned residents of Nekede against any involvement in any act capable of breaching public peace and promised that the police would get to the root of the killing.
