But for the quick intervention of the Bayelsa State Police Command yesterday,  a 35 years old man would have been lynched by an angry mob over alleged rape of a 13 years old girl along the Akenfa area of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The 35 years old suspected rapist, was apprehended on Sunday by angry mob for defiling the 13 years old girl.

It was gathered that the victim was lured out of the parent's home by the suspected rapists with "sweets" and warned not to inform the parents of the atrocity.

Police Public Relations Officer, Astimin Butswat  who confirmed the incident, said that "On the 4th of Oct at about 9.30pm, Policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Yenagoa, responded to a distress call from residents of Akenfa 1 Community, Yenagoa.On arrival, they met an irate mob attacking one Akpobomei Micheal age 35yrs, for allegedly raping a 13 year old girl. The suspect was rescued and was subsequently detained."

"The Police command appreciate the commitment of members of the public in assisting Police in fighting crimes, they should however desist from beating suspects. Investigation is ongoing."
