The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) said it would give special attention to security institutions in the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to ensure they successfully deliver their mandates.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press, OAGF, Mrs Kenechukwu Offie,  made available on Friday in Abuja.

The statement quoted the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, as giving the assurance when he received the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase.

The AGF said his office was aware of the enormous responsibilities facing security agencies in contending armed robbery, insurgency, kidnapping and other vices in the country.

He pledged to ensure the release of monies required for the execution of all special operations aimed at overcoming the evils.

Idris also said ``the TSA is not meant to hamper the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), but to entrench transparent, efficient and robust management of public funds that will ensure speedy realisation of government plans and programmes.’’

He then commended the police for complying with the directive on the TSA and urged them to embrace more scientific and electronic means for transacting business.

He explained that ``the era of carrying money in Ghana-Must-go bags to payment points are gone’’, adding that the TSA would complement the already existing electronic platforms of doing business.

In his response, the IGP commended the OAGF for its support to MDAs, particularly the Nigerian Police Force in the implementation of the TSA.

He, however, solicited for the support of the AGF in sustaining its special operations on counter-terrorism and other crimes, as well as early payment of staff salaries.
