Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has urged the Nigerian Breweries Plc to assist the government in the completion of the International Conference Centre in the state capital .

Ugwuanyi made the call in Enugu on Saturday during a facility tour of the Ama Brewery at the Ninth Mile Corner, Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said that the gesture, if granted would contribute to the economic growth of the state.

He also urged the company to build parks for its heavy duty trucks to save the roads from damage and traffic congestion.

Ugwuanyi, however, thanked the company for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which it offered the government, the host communities and the general public.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the company, Nicolaas Vervelde, thanked the governor for his speedy intervention in issues affecting the operations of the company.

According to him, the award of the contract for the construction of the Ninth Mile Bypass would in no doubt, decongest traffic around the brewery, especially during festivities.

He promised to look into the requests by the governor as well as continued to partner with the government in its developmental efforts.

Vervelde said that the Ama Breweries, which was inaugurated in 2003 by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, remained the single biggest investment by Heineken outside Netherland.

The MD announced that the world class facility was run and operated fully by Nigerians from top to bottom.

He also said that the company was also living up to expectations in the discharge of its corporate social responsibility to the state.

Vervelde said the company has among other things donated 30 classroom blocks, libraries and convenience to schools in the state as well as built a science laboratory for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The highlight of the occasion was the planting of a tree in the premises of the company by the governor, which is a symbol of the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between the government and the company.
