The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Hamidu Kunaza, has explained that the judiciary failed to celebrate its legal year in the last four years due to paucity of fund.

Kunaza made this known at the 2015/2016 Legal Year in Bauchi on Monday.
He said that the judiciary equally suffered in the last four years due to economic downturn, adding that judges had to share courtrooms and chambers.
``We lack tables, chairs, reference and law books as well as other essentials equipments and materials that could enable us conduct researches and make references to adjudicate cases.
``We have 14 magistrate courts operating in rented buildings and subjected to threats of ejection by landlords while the four additional judicial divisions approved by my predecessor are yet to take off.
``We have a parcel of land for construction of magistrate court and projects of magistrate courts litters all over the state at various levels of completion,’’ Kunaza said.
He said the state Judicial Service Commission lack functional vehicle, allowances of the workers reduced by three quarters while the building hosting it was in a state of dilapidation.
The chief judge decried the unprofessional conduct of some lawyers, who petitioned the National Judicial Commission and Supreme Court instead of appeal courts for cases adjudicated against them.
He warned lawyers and litigants against such act because it was not in the 
interest of the judiciary.
Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi urged the judiciary to join in its fight to curb menace of the activities of illegal mining in some parts of the state.
``There is a constitutional duty upon us to curb the grading nuisance of the artisenal lead miners in Rafin Jaki, Toro, Burra-Ningi, Gwana, Alkaleri, Ganjuwa, Tafawa Balewa and others''
