Kanu in court Wednesday
The detained director of the pro-Biafra independence group, the  Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was Wednesday  arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on fresh  six-count charges bordering on illegal possession of arms and treasonable felony.

 Meanwhile, counsel to  Kanu, Vincent Egechukwu Obetta,  had accused Nigeria's Federal Government of instituting unnecessary legal bottlenecks to frustrate his release.

 The arraignment of the activist attracted heavy security presence with  uninformed and uninformed security operatives lurking  around the court premises.

 It will be recalled that on Friday, December 18,  a court’s ruled  that Kanu  be released immediately and unconditionally, but the government filed fresh charges against him.

 The six-count charges bordering on illegal possession of arms and treasonable felony is expected to be heard before Justice A. R. Mohammed.

 Kanu was arrested by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) on Wednesday, October 14 in Lagos on his arrival to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

 He was first  charged for criminal intimidation of the Nigeria government among others at a Magistrate Court in Abuja.

 The court later discharged and struck out all cases against kanu after the SSS applied for the discontinuation of the case for lack of jurisdiction by the Magistrate Court to entertain the matter.

 On Thursday, December 17, the Federal High Court presided over by Ademola Adeniyi ordered an immediate and unconditional release of the accused.
