The embattled President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, NCSU, Comrade Kiri Mohammed - though in court with another party - has summoned a Special Delegates Conference to discuss the issue in contention.

The Special Delegates Conference scheduled  for Kaduna on March 3 has as its sole agenda:  'Ratification of the Recommendation by the Constitution Review Committee's Report'

It will be recalled that on January 27, 2016, Mr Benson Ekasa, NCSU unit Secretary, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa,  Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dragged Mohammed to  the National Industrial Court, Abuja over
alleged plots to amend the  union’s constitution to elongate his tenure.

In the suit number, NICN/ABJ/31/2016, dated Jan. 27, the NCSU and the Registrar of Trade Unions were joined as respondents

The suit supported by a three-page affidavit filed by Mr Frank Tietie, the claimant’s counsel,  stated that Mohammed had initiated the process of amending the union's constitution to remain in office.

Ekasa alleged  that Mohammed was due to retire from the Jigawa State Civil Service sometime this year, having joined  the service in 1981.

The claimant further averred that the NCSU’s constitution stipulates that membership of the union was restricted only to persons who are in the employment of a state or  federal public service.

He, therefore, claimed that Mohammed lacked the legal backing to remain in office beyond his retirement date since only members  still in service were qualified to be  officials of the union.

Ekasa urged the court to determine whether by provisions of the NCSU constitution a retired civil servant could  continue to act as president of the union.

He asked the court to determine whether the union’s constitution could be amended to allow a retiree to continue  in office as president of the NCSU.

The claimant prayed the court to declare that the defendant could no longer continue as president  after his ''due retirement’’ from the Jigawa State Civil Service.

He also prayed the court to restrain the defendant from the purported constitution amendment process.

Mohammed, through his counsel, Garba Tetengi, SAN has since filed a counter motion disputing the allegations

The case is fixed for hearing on March 14, 2016

For his 'audacity', Ekasa had since being suspended from the Union by NCSU's National Executive Council, NEC
