Abians should prepare for more headaches, especially in the area of insecurity and extortion. The salary crunch facing civil servants is also affecting the State Vigilante Group, aka Bakassi Boys.

 Theledgerng.com gathered that the situation is responsible  for the complaints by  traders and businessmen and women at the Ariaria International Market, and other big markets in Aba of  extortion from the gun-wielding, fierce looking vigilante group.

 However, a member of the vigilante group who refused to disclose his name however explained that it is not really extortion.  “The traders and shop owners on their own offered to contribute small, small money to assist us. The  Abia state government has really failed us” he concluded.

 It was reliably gathered that the  Abia State Vigilante Group, aka Bakassi  are being  owed about 10 months salary.

 A top official of the group described the situation thus: “The condition is so terrible, me and my boys are right now 10 months without salary. It is a very dangerous situation because you can’t give a man gun and keep him hungry, the state government must treat our case specially. The government need to know our work is difficult, we are the people covering all the places Police can not cover, so we need to be paid salary.  We are already tired of begging and writing letters to the state government ” he lamented.
