Mrs. Ugwuanyi spoke while inaugurating a health centre at Alulu Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area, noting that pregnancy is a delicate period which ought to be taken seriously by all women.
She enjoined mothers to strive to nurture their kids appropriately and frowned at the practice of using children to solicit alms and
subjecting them to other forms of abuse.
The First Lady who also donated birth kits to expectant mothers at the
health centre advised women to “try to work hard in order to empower
ourselves”, thanking the wives of both the president, Mrs. Aisha
Buhari, and the Enugu East Local Government Area chair, Mrs. Chinwe
Nnaji, for their contributions in making the event a reality.
For Mrs. Nnaji, the event is a largely unprecedented one in the
council's history. She praised Governor Ugwuanyi and his wife for
their remarkable work in the health sector and in infrastructural
development across the state.
“Your Excellency’s free medical care to the people of Enugu State and
the award of scholarship to two hundred and two students of Enugu
State indigenes, of which Enugu East council is among the
beneficiaries, distinguished your administration from others,” she
said, thanking the governor's wife for her interest in the wellbeing
of vulnerable groups and adding that the health facility would be a
huge benefit to the community.
