Labour leaders in Abia State Saturday expressed hopes that their proposed meeting with Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu would result in the payment in full or part of the over seven months salary arrears owed Abia civil servants.

A terse statement signed by Mr. Enyinnaya Appolos, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor had Friday  invited the leaders  of the State chapters of  Nigerian Union of teachers, Nigerian Labour Congress, and  Pensioners Association of Nigeria to what it described as "a crucial meeting with the goveernors on Monday, 19th December 2016, at the Exco chambers of Government House Umuahia at 11am"

  Also to attend the meeting includes the Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Abia State chapter,  the Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Education, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Secretary to State Government and Chairman of the state civil service Commission. 

According to the statement, "The meeting is expected to finalize arrangements for payment of outstanding  pensions and salaries of pensioners and workers".
