After seven years of operation, the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, would soon, for the first time, have two Deputy Vice Chancellors who would run the institution with the Vice Chancellor.

This decision was taken after the state government  considered the report of the visitation panel to the university.

The state commissioner  for information and communication, Babatunde Ajeigbe who briefed journalists on the outcome of the meeting of the state executive council on Thursday said the council after considering the report approved that the governing council of the  university  should without  delay  ensure  the appointment  of the two deputy vice chancellors.

The school had since its establishment been run by a Vice Chancellor with coordinators, with the Vice Chancellor, Abdulrashid Na'Allah securing a second term of office two years ago after  his first five-year tenure expired.

Ajeigbe, who said that the decision for appointment of the deputies is in line with the law establishing the university, disclosed that one of the deputies would be in charge of administration, and the other, academics.

The commissioner hinted that the government also approved the construction of Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses of the university explaining that the work would involve lecture rooms, students' hostels and staff quarters  building and road,  water and electricity facilities.

He said that the government also approved  the establishment of Governance and Business School at Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, at the cost of N3.21b.

Ajeigbe disclosed that the government also approved that two of the courses the institution  offers namely Legal Administration and Portuguese Language be scrapped, pointing out that Legal Administration is not a course accredited  by the nation's Council of Legal Education.
