 The Kwara State chapter of the factionalised Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned  Nigeria's ruling party, the  All Progressives Congress, APC against plunging the nation into crisis, due to what it described as the APC-led  Federal Government's selective fight against corruption.

 It also  cautioned the  ruling  party against the destruction and decimation of opposition parties in the country.

 Addressing journalists in Ilorin, the  state  capital, one of the factional State PDP Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said that from all indications, the court-approved National Chairman of the party, Senator Modu Sheriff, is an agent of the APC planted in the PDP with a view to destroying it.

 "We saw the temporary 'victory' of Modu Sheriff as a travesty of justice and victory for the ruling APC, which is interested in the destruction and decimation of opposition parties in Nigeria, particularly our great party, the PDP", he said.

 Fagbemi, who was flanked by the  pioneer Chairman of the party in the state,  Barr.  Kunle  Sulaiman,  Senator Makanjuola  Ajadi and other elders of the party, counselled the ruling APC government to allow democracy to survive in the country.

 He, however, urged PDP leaders and members across the country to support Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, saying the committee was capable of taking the party to the promised land come 2019.

 Fagbemi described the decision of the  party 's National Convention Committee (NCC) to lodge an appeal at the Supreme Court  and also file an application for stay of execution pending final determination of the appeal on the  Port -Harcourt  Appeal Court's judgment as a right step in the right  direction. 

 He said : "The National Convention Committee is the highest law making body of our party as confirmed in Section 33 (2) of our constitution, therefore its decision on any matter affecting our party is final and binding, therefore, on Port Harcourt decision we stand."

 On the local government elections in Kwara state, the  PDP Chairman urged members of the party in the state to prepare and mobilise for the poll, warning that the state government must prepare to conduct the council poll after the expiration of the renewed three-month tenure of the  transition implementation committees (TICs) put up in the  councils by the state government against the Supreme Court ruling that the setting up of TICs for local governments was not only an aberration but also illegal. 

 He said the government  would not have any option than to conduct the  council poll around  June,  this  year, after the expiration of  the maximum six-month  tenure of the  TICs.

 Fagbemi expressed  his support for the legal suit instituted by some  PDP members  against the constitution  of TICs by the state government to run the affairs of the  16 local government areas in the state.
