Queen Maureen Achugbe, the present Nwa Ada ndokwa Youths Ambassador has called for a better and orderly Ndokwa nation. The Youths Ambassador made the call yesterday during a one day seminar on Parenting, held in Ebedei, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of her Pet Project for the year 2017. 

 According to her, Ndokwa nation will develop better and orderly when there is synergy between the parents and their children. “We will have a better understanding before parents and children, and we will build a nation where respect and justice will reign”, she said and appealed to parents to ensure that children were given adequate training as she charged the youths to love and obey their parents for a secured future. 

 The youth ambassador pleaded that parents should brace up with modern trends and avoids any act that is anti-development, like the practice of female circumcision or Female Genital Mutilation (FMG), but rather should be at the fore front of teaching the children moral values for a better and secured tomorrow. Meanwhile, speakers and guests who attended the seminar called for the end to the cultural practice of FMG. 

 According to Hon. Ochor Chris Ochor, the Executive Director Social Services Development on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), FMG as an age-long practice that needs to be stopped as it has nothing, but negative health implications. 

 Hon. Ochor who was represented by Mr. Frank Enefazu, Media Assistant on New Media, called on parents to join the government to see that the practice is stopped as it has neither positive or biblical benefits, but pains and discomfort to the girl-child. 

 “This long time cultural practice has on health and biblical benefits, but rather carries with it, negative health problems and the practice has to be stopped”, he said. 

 Hon. Ochor said that for the practice to be stopped, parents have to agree. They have to know the health implications of the act of Female Genital Mutilation. 

 Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Dr. Kingsley Ojie, who was a guest speaker at the occasion, spoke on the dangers of breast cancer and FMG, and the need for regular medical check-ups. 

 He said that breast cancer is abnormal breast swellings, which can affect both sexes, with the women folk suffering up to 80 percent of it. The medical doctor called for regular body check-up, to check, and arrest abnormal growths such as breast cancer, by consulting with doctors, saying that the sickness can be treated if it can be diagnosed early enough. 

 He advised women, especially, to always check their breasts, and visit the doctor once they notice any abnormal growth on their breast.
