The Delta State Government has waded into the lingering crisis between Kokodiagbene community, Gbaramatu kingdom in Warri South West Local and American Oil Giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL).
Mr. Austin Abuah, the Director of Security services’ Department, Governor’s Office, Asaba, who confirmed the peace move by the state government, said representatives of the community have been invited to a meeting, adding “I’m directed to representatives of the community to a meeting of the state security council Meeting schedules for Wednesday, May 3, 2017 to deliberate further on issues in your community with Chevron Nigeria Limited over power supply” It was gathered that residents of Kokodiagbene community have been at war with Chevron Nigeria Limited over its refusal to provide electricity to the areas.
But the chairman of the community, Mr. Sheriff Mulade who confirmed the invitation of representation to the State security Council Meeting, said: “It is true that we have been invited to the State Security Council Meeting on Wednesday May 3, 2017, we are ready to appear again at the meeting, we will not succumb to any intimidation, blackmail and threat to our lives, we have made our position very clear on the issue and there is no going back, the state government should prevail on Chevron Nigeria Limited to do the needful by providing the suffering people of Kokodiagbene community with electricity, we are not going back out of our plan to relocate to the Utonana flow station being operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to enjoy electricity with the staff of the community”.
Expectedly, hundreds of indigenes of Kokodiagbene in Gbaramatu kingdom, had on February 1, 2017, stormed the Utonana flow Station operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) protesting against the company’s alleged refusal to supply electricity to the community and threatened to shut down operations of the company at the expiration of a 14 day ultimatum.
