  Messy Details Of Horrendous Crimes

Even as small arms smuggling  continue to task the investigative skills of the Nigerian Police, the Delta Police Command has stumbled upon a gun manufacturing factory in a remote community in the state.     

 theledgerng.com gathered thatbthe police detectives attached to the command Tuesday evening in Enwhile Village, Isoko South, uncovered an arms  build-up manufacturing factory with over 26, 000 AK 4 rifles cut to sizes guns. 

 The suspected operators of the illegal arms factory though were arrested on the spot and are currently being detained at the State CID. 

 It was reliably gathered that they (suspects) have been involved in armed robbery and kidnapping including suppliers of arms/ammunitions to their gang members who operate in other states. 

 But the Police Image Maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the arrest of the suspects and the uncovered illegal arms’ factory to our reporter, disclosed that the suspects owned the building/warehouse where the illegal factory operates, adding the suspects upon interrogation, confessed to the crime that they have been in the “business” for over ten years. 

 Aniamaka explained that following a tip-off by the detectives, one of the suspects, Afferay Editor was arrested while “having fun” with his girls friend; a situation he led the police detectives to other members of his gang in their hideouts. 

 Investigation revealed that a total of 127 kidnap/robbery suspects in the last six months were arrested and charged to court by the police command as it also adopted strategies of “stop/search, intelligence gathering, 24 hours surveillance of financial institutions and prompt responses to distress calls. 

 Expectedly, the police had in the last two weeks, paraded couple (name withheld) who bathed a 7-month baby to death with hot water after a quarrel which ensued between the couple and their neighbour in the same house. 

 The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Zannah Ibrahim confirmed that  the mother of the baby had a quarrel with the suspects and as a result, the woman after the quarrel bathed one Adaze Aya and Gideon Aya with hot water which caused them bodily burns and injuries. 

 However, in attempt  to retaliate, the  couple (suspects) bathed the 7 months old baby with hot water and was rushed to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba where the baby gave up the ghost. 

 Also, the state High Court sitting in Asaba last Monday sentenced two brothers, Charles Adumekwe and Chika Adumekwe to six years imprisonment with had labour for alleged conspiracy to commit murder. The judgment came following the death of one Osirighe Emmanuel in the recent times at the Delta State University Abraka. 

 The court presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Marshal Umukoro, sentenced the two brothers in Suit No HOB/8c/2014. Justice Umukoro in a 20 page judgment, held that having taken into consideration all the evidence before him, there was strong urge to inter conspiracy between 1st and 2nd accused persons in the conspiracy which led to the death of the victim, Osikighe Emmanuel. 

 Meanwhile, a 21 year old man, Jonathan Esiuwu in Okuokoko town, Okpe Local Government Area of the state allegedly set on fire the house of a 26 year old lady (name withheld) for reportedly refusing his sexual advances. 

 It was gathered that the suspect at present a guest of the police at the State CID, had made several advances to the victim in her house before the bubble burst, but failed. Consequently, the suspect perfected a fresh strategy which landed him into trouble after he was said to have gained entrance into the victim’s apartment during nightfall. 

 The police boss Zanna Ibrahim who confirmed the incident told our reported that the victim was fast asleep when she heard a knock on her door hid in her attempt to confirm who was behind the knock, the suspect appeared and pushed her to the bed, unfortunately the victim gained the upper hand to escape; a situation the suspect set the house ablaze. 

 Only recently, a popular Actor/Comedian, Bishop Okon narrowly escaped death in the hands of hoodlums in Warri after he was reportedly robbed at gun point. It was gathered that the hoodlum carted away his valuable including his GSM handsets and some unspecified amount of money. 

 According to him “I was robbed in Warri by some bad boys who had waited to kill me, but God helped me”. In another development, a reported case of armed robbery attack on a petrol filling station in Issele-Uku where the manager was suffocated to death by hoodlums after carting away the sales for that day, hitherto unsettles the people of Issele-Uku community. 

 As it were, the police uncovered the corpse of the manager few days after the incident behind the filling station after intensive search conducted. 

 Zanna Ibrahim, Police Commissioner in the state told our reporter that the suspects were later arrested, adding that after stealing the money, they realized that  leaving the manager alive will expose them hence they (suspects) strangled the manager to death. 

 According to the police boss, upon the report, detectives swung into action and the suspects were arrested in Langtang, Plateau State their home town where they escaped to and with the help of a lady who was a pump attendant at the filling station. 

 Zanna Ibrahim said the matter at present under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court. 

 An Asaba High Court last Monday sentenced one Fidelix Edozien 30 years a native of Anambra State to death by hanging for the murder of one Mrs. Evelyn Chima. 

 Though Edozien pleaded not guilty to the 3-count charge preferred against him but the court presided by Justice Marshal Umukoro said the accused by evidence conspired to kidnap and murder the victim contrary to sections 516, 364 and 319(1) criminal code cap 48 vol. 11 laws of defunct Bendel State as applicable in Delta State. 

 The prosecution had told the court that on September 24, 2008, the accused person with three others at larger, conspired and kidnapped the victim, Mrs. Evelyn Chima, Alias Madam do good at Ogbade in Illah where she had gone to excavate stones.
