Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi today stands shoulders taller than his peers in Nigeria for vigorously pursuing the affirmative action that seeks to involve women in governance in the State, says a female activist and Woman leader, Mrs Bibian Anakwe.

Anakwe who is the leader of Enugu Di N'Akachukwu Movement told journalists in Abuja that a review of Gov Ugwuanyi's administration shows a consistent commitment to ensuring more participation and inclusion of women in governance. " Gov. Ugwuanyi has emancipated more women in his administration than any other previous governments in the state.", she maintained.

She added that under Ugwuanyi's watch, women currently occupy top positions in the State, among which is the second highest political office, the deputy Governorship which is  occupied by Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo who has just been sworn in for a second term.

Anakwe, further extolling Ugwuanyi's affirmative action record noted that women are also heading sensitive ministries as Commissioners. Among them include Mrs. Eucharia Uche Offor, Commissioner for Finance  and Economic  Development; Mrs Rita Chinelo Mbah, Commissioner for  Special Duties And Inter Governmental Affairs, and Hon. Princess Peace Nnaji, Commissioner for Gender Affairs And Social Development amongst others.

According to her, other juicy political positions held by women include that of the SPA to Governor, Mrs. Mabel Chinwe Agbo, (Special Duties And Intergovernmental affairs);  Mrs. Olangwa N. Ezeukwu, (Diaspora And Special Projects); Mrs. Ikpeama Felicia, (Water Resources).

She also pointed out that Women also head key parastatals and departments including,  Chief (Mrs) Amaka Anajemba,  Managing Director Of Enugu Waste Management Authority, (ESWAMA );  Amb.Mrs Fidelia Akuabata Njeze, Chairperson Governing Council Enugu State College of Education,  (Technical), and Chief (Mrs) Ifeoma Nwobodo, Chairman, Institute  of Management  and Technology,  (IMT),  Enugu

Going further, Anakwe argued that Gov  Ugwuanyi's support for female empowerment contributed to the high profile positions occupied by women in the Enugu State House of Assembly where following the recent  inauguration of the 7th Session of the House Hon. Onyinye Ugwu was returned to  her position as the Deputy Leader of the House for the second time;   Hon. Jane Eneh was elected Chief Whip, while the former Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ethel Oyibo Ugwuanyi was returned to her position. ''Such confidence and honour done to these women could only be possible in the female friendly disposition of the Ugwuanyi's  administration'', she stressed

''Our records indeed show that Gov Ugwuanyi has done well for the women, and we hope he exceeds the 35% affirmative action for women accross the three arms of government in his second term. She also pointed out  that besides thirteen (13) women making up the twenty-three (23) Honorable Judges of the State High Court and Customary Court of Appeal, the Chief Justice of the State,  Hon  Justice N.P Emehelu is a woman.

Concluding, Anakwe who hails from Eke in Udi  Local Government, urged women in the State not to relent in their staunch support for Governor Ugwuanyi, urging them to continue to offer motherly prayers for the peace and stability of Enugu state
