Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi Thursday  stressed the need to use sports to eradicate poverty while receiving former
 Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai at Government House, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Rufai was in the State for a youths empowerment  programme tagged "Dodo Mayana soccerthon project".

The Deputy Governor emphasised the importance of Sports and the need to use it to curb the menace of drug abuse and crime in the Society, noting that 90% of great sports stars are from poor background who used their talents to improve their families and the Nation.

Mr Alabi commended the initiative of the former goalkeeper and his desire to give back to the society promising government support
 to the project.

 "You can only be great by giving, as you give, God will lift you up", the Deputy Governor added.

He charged stakeholders in the Sports industry to go back to the grassroots for talents hunt to ensure brighter future for the Nation.

Earlier, the Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai had thanked the State government for its hospitality, support and encouragement, adding that Sports had taken him to the peak of his football career and also helped him to acquire education
 which he never dreamt of.

He commended the State for its youth friendly sporting programmes explaining that he decided to float the project as his token to give back to the society
