Remarks by  Hon. Sam I. Onuigbo representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency  on the Occasion of the Donation of Examination Revision Materials to Students in his Constituency, at Kolping Event Centre, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, Abia State, on March 12th, 2020.

I am very pleased to be here today, to donate examination revision materials to students from this great constituency who are seeking to further extend their studies or at least gain at the very least, the Senior Secondary School Certificate. This, of course is part of my “excellence in service” promise to the youths of this constituency, aimed at adding value to them.


As a seasoned educationist, I have always been interested in the provision of quality education for our young ones. That is why my journey through life has always been highlighted by the offering of several scholarship opportunities to young people from primary, secondary, tertiary, and even post-graduate levels. It is on record that as far back as 1999, in my bid to address the paucity of classrooms for pupils in my alma mater, Obuohia Ibere Community Primary School, I attracted  the construction of a block of three executive classrooms in the community through the U.S Embassy’s self-help project. This was followed by the establishment of a secondary school —Ambassador’s College— in my community, to save our youths from trekking over twelve kilometers daily in search of secondary education.

During my first tenure as the member representing the good people of great Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, I was a member of the House Committees on Basic and Tertiary Education and my experiences further exposed me to the many challenges faced by our young ones in their search for a better future, through education. That was why I used that opportunity to attract the construction of many classroom blocks throughout the three Local Government Areas of Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South. My conviction is that a conducive learning environment will help our young ones do better and continue to excel and maintain Abia State’s enviable position as the state that has consistently come first in the country, in the West African Secondary School Examinations over the years.

In furtherance of that drive to perpetuate the excellence that we have come to be known with, I have this year procured registration forms for our young ones who desire to sit for the West African Examination Council(WAEC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) examinations.

Today, we have to make sure that we did not just purchase the forms, but we also make sure that the students are fully equipped to do well. That is why we are providing 2,000 WAEC revision books to students in schools within the constituency. Providing infrastructural development to our people is great, but it is greater to equip our young ones who are the future with what they need to navigate effectively through their future.

It is important that I point out that I have been active in providing opportunities for our youths in direct employment, education and training and youth empowerment schemes. Earlier this year, over forty youths participated in an empowerment programme which held at my constituency office, Umuahia and reserved empowerment items such as motorcycles, sewing machines and grinding machines.
