* Agbazuere |
By Honest Munachiso Offor
I have refrained myself from calling out the bellicose and cantankerous Chief of Staff to the governor for his overzealous and malevolent activities since assuming office, but I cannot in good conscience sit idly by as the self purported Human Rights lawyer swagger around like a bull in a China shop.
I will not be helping the governor nor the youths of the state who have become targets of ACB's vicious attempt to clamp down on free speech. The man's inordinate attempt to censor, control and calibrate people's opinion has assumed a very worrisome dimension that must checked without further delay.
Dr ACB Agbazuere's mischievous stunts aimed at perpetually incarcerating Mr. Emperor Ogbonna was thwarted today when the court granted the accused bail but the foxy lawyer whose lawyerly abilities is only suited for mistreating oppressed and weak people, came up with another plot to rearrest the accused using the Department of State Security (DSS).
I will be glad to know what Agbazuere stands to gain from jailing Abia youths. How does this embarrassing show of naked force help the battered image of the Abia State governor. I am beginning to think that Agbazuere is a fifth columnist planted in Ikpeazu's government to cause confusion and derail any effort that may redeem what is left from this bumbling regime. Why is the man desperately playing the role of an undertaker?
Anybody with half a brain will know that the continued incarceration of Ogbonna, Amb Friday and the planned arrest of other strong voices, is not in the interest of the government. Pray, since the arrest of these men, has the criticism of government abetted in any form? So, why will the Chief of Staff continue an exercise that brings nothing but opprobrium to his boss? We saw in Sowore's case how the ill advised acts of mischief, turned the man into a cult hero. Why re-enact a failed strategy?
Power is the ultimate revealer of character and this office has unravelled ACB for who he is - an unrestrained, power drunk, overzealous brute. He has bared his hands and people will now be wary of entrusting him with power. After this ignoble assignment, which I bet will be short-lived, no government worth its salt will want to associate with such a divisive character.
No gang up, however strong or deep, will deny Mr. Ogbonna freedom forever. I will hasten to also add that should any harm come to Emperor or his family, Mr. Agbazuere should be held fully responsible. We will resist any attempt to turn Abia to a fascist state where dissidents are treated like enemies of state.
Enough is enough!
