Men of the Niger State Police Command have apprehended, one Baba Aliyu, 45, of Lambata in Gurara Local Government Area of the state for car theft.

The suspect, was trailed and apprehended by the police patrol team attached to Gawu Babangida Division while trying to escape to unknown destination.

It was learnt that the car  with registration number RSH 379 AP was stolen at Fowad Libabidi  Mosque Wuse zone 3.Federal Capital Territory, Abuja while the owner was praying.

Our correspondent gathered that the car theft was intercepted a long Minna-Suleja road and he abandoned the vehicle at Lambata after a hot chase by the operatives.

Checks further revealed that the suspect had been robbing unsuspected residents of their vehicles and valuables without being arrested.

The suspect told our correspondent that he had been involved in car theft for over five years, adding that he relied on informants for information on targeted cars.

Aliyu said, “I operate along the Minna - Suleja - Lambata  Road; depending on the location of the vehicle, I steal cars by using my personal master key to unlock them.

“ I can’t explain how I started stealing people's cars. I have tried to quit the act but couldn’t. Car theft has never helped me in any way; even the money I got from it, I cannot give an account of what I did with it, is unfortunate. "

The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, on Monday explained that the suspect was arrested after a tip-off, adding that a car was recovered from him.

He said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation
