Omalicha Umuada Igbo organization Monday empowered eleven unemployed women and fourteen students with the sum of eight hundred and thirty six thousand naira (N836, 000) empowerments in FCT.
The president of the group, Dr Lilian Ogugua said that we are empowering some of the women who have gone through some rigorous process of selections, we have oriented them on how their business can come up better.
"A lot of them have lost their business capital, some with children being sick or husband not supportive enough. So today we want to empower them with the sum of N500,000.
"So inside the N500,000 each woman will taken N50,000 each. They are about ten women.
"Also we are giving scholarship to fourteen students, primary and secondary schools and we will make sure they finish.
"For the scholarship, we did not just do it, we did a spelling bee and from the spelling bees we end up having fourteen best students from two schools in FCT (junior secondary Kabusa, and Jip Academy)," she stated.
This money we are giving, we have gotten it from those who have supported us and I will said that a lot of people supported us.
She advised the women to to take advantage of the money and change for the better.
This one we are doing today is just the first batch. We are going to be doing it batch by batch.
Also speaking, Mrs Blessing Emereonye, on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for what Omalicha Umuada Igbo has done to them.
She said she wish them to continue with the good work they have started.
In her words, the chairman organising committee, Barr Igbokwe Prudencia Chinyere, said that with this kind of initiative we can take our country to the next level.
She urged the women to make judicial use of the opportunity given to them
