"Gov Wike Under Attack for Exposing Impunity in PDP"
Governor Nyesom Wike has come under attack by PDP faithful for declaring that impunity is at the root of crisis facing the embattled opposition party, and forcing members to defect to the ruling APC
Gov Wike, Sunday, August 15, during a live AIT interview while throwing light on the growing crisis in the PDP, explained that reasons behind it could be found in instances of inefficiency, ineptitude, and tussle for supremacy that had bedevilled the party over a period of time.
The Rivers governor gave instances, recalling that Col Akobundu, the party's National Organising Secretary, because of his 2023 governorship ambition "... denied a House of Representatives member..." from having a say in the election of his ward executives during the party's ward congress out of fear that the National Assembly member may not support his guber ambition.
Though Gov Wike did not mention the name of the lawmaker, a certain social media platform have jumped into a dog fight over the matter with the insinuation that the legislator being referred to must be Rep Sam Onuigbo, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/ South Federal Constituency.
Rep Onuigbo, DailyLedger.com.ng reports, after being denied his ward party structure during the Congress last year subsequently defected to the APC.
In the hot debate on the social media platform over Wike's comment, most pro-PDP comments rather that address the issues of impunity as alleged by Wike found other reasons to excoricate him.
One of the comments queried Wike thus: "Why are you crying more than the bereaved ? ...did you give the opportunity to H.E Prince Uche Secondus, PDP National Chairman, to have any input or nominate anyone into the Ward, LGA & State Executives in the PDP Rivers State Congresses?, Messrs Ambassador Piegbe, and Emmanuel Uebari, respectively
founder & former hairman, PDP Global Ambassadors World-Wide asked him in a statement where they advised him to apologise to Col Austin Akobundu, PDP's National Organising Secretary
The duo who invited the Rivers governor to proffer answers to series of questions further alleged that his (Wike's) autocratic and dictatorial leadership style has depleted membership of the PDP in Rivers State.
In his reaction to Wike's allegation, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Oluchi Ibeji stated that "The allegation of high handedness against Col. Akobundu by HE Nyesom Wike is based on false gossip"
In his reaction, the Media Aide to Rep Onyigbo, Mr Nnaemeka Oruh declared: "They have not been able to counter anything Gov. Wike said with a single fact. Release the list of LGA and Ward Excos and point us to the ones from Rep. Onuigbo.
"That is how you prove that Gov. Wike lied. Instead of doing that, they are busy roping in Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Rep. Onuigbo, just to avoid using facts to disprove what the Governor said.
"I maintain my philosophy that no matter how long it takes, the truth will always come out. That’s the consolation that those of us who have sworn to abide by the truth at all times, have." Oruh affirmed
