Abia Online Media Practitioners Tuesday applauded Abia State Commissioner of Police，Mrs Janet  Agbede, for her quick intervention in getting its member， Comrade Ugochukwu Nwankwo released from police custody

DailyLedger.com.ng reports that Comrade Nwankwo， the Chairman, Abia Media Online Practitioners, was on Tuesday， unlawfully arrested together with several others close to his office around Item Street, Umuahia.  Following outcry by members， he was later released unconditionally.

Reacting to his release in a statement，  the Secretary Abia Online Media Practitioners, Mr Izuchukwu Nwokoma,  commended CP Agbede for her swift response which ensured the release of her Chairman, adding that the CP's action shows that she is not a party to harassment, intimidationt or incarceration of media practitioners in the State.

While urging the Police  in the country to stem the tide of harassment and indiscriminate arrest of people for no reason，  Abia Online Media Practitioners, called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to address the high level police harassment and intimidation going on in the South-East, stressing that it has taken a frightening dimension.

The Association described as worrisome， situation where  Policemen storm lawful gathering of people, intimidate as well as harass them in the process without cogent reasons.
