Ernest Shonekan


The Convener of the New Nigeria Group( NNG), Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, has described the death of former Interim Head of State, Chief Ernest Shonekan as a big loss to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Chief Shonekan was head of the Interim National Government between August 26 and November 17, 1993.

Mazi Ohuabunwa who is also a frontrunner for the Presidential Ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), regretted that Chief Shonekan was taking a bow when the nation need his wealth of experience to navigate the difficult terrain it is currently passing through.

He described late Shonekan as a rare breed who distinguished himself in the corporate world, having piloted the affairs of UAC Plc, one of the leading conglomerates in the world.

Ohuabunwa further stated that the late Shonekan used the platform of UAC to position Nigeria in the corporate world, noting that under his tutelage, many corporate czars were raised in the country.

While condoling with the family left behind, Mazi Ohuabunwa noted with pride that the contributions made by late Shonekan to the corporate stability of the country would be remembered in the annals of Nigeria's journey to nationhood.

He further noted that the late elder statesman discharged all national assignments with forthrightness and a deep sense of patriotism. 

Mazi Ohuabunwa enjoined the family left behind to bear the loss of their patriarch with equanimity and prayer the Almighty God to accept the soul of the departed former Head of State.
