Dear Chairman, Abia PDP,
Ahead your visit to Ikwuano PDP on Friday, March 11, 2022, we say welcome Sir Alwel Asiforo Okere
Though we are not party loyalists, we feel sufficiently concerned about the goings-on in our LGA controlled by the PDP to brief you that opportunities still abound for PDP to regain lost grounds in Ikwuano.
Straight on, while in Ikwuano, listen with two ears: One ear to hears from the eye service members who hide mischief behind a fake smile.
With the other ear, hear from the aggrieved, the marginalised and cheated members whose membership now hangs on a tiny thread.
Delivered in 1999 as robust bouncing baby, one expected Ikwuano PDP would have grown now into a sturdy, promising youth, such is not the case. We have on our hands a sickly, stunted being, surviving now on life-support.
As the father of the party, it may offend your sensibilities, but the truth is that Ikwuano PDP is an orphan. The guardians you entrusted the party to have abandoned it to an uncertain fate. Its has been an individualistic scramble for spoils of office with no thoughts for corporate wellbeing
Sir, your proposed visit to Ikwuano is like a silver lining offering hopes that succour may be on the way for the sickly child
As you interact with stakeholders and guardians of Ikwuano PDP, here are some factors worth rubbing minds on.
Aparthy. Ikwuano PDP is sickly because its leadership focuses only on self-care and nourishment, thumbing their nose at its followers. Take the all important matter of CVR, the party as the dominant party in the LGA has not deemed it fit to own this project and galvanise the people to buy into it. Why is this so sir? Are the Executive chairman of Ikwuano LG council and the member, representing Ikwuano State Constituency in the House of Assembly bereft of the capacity of offering leadership, direction and motivation to their own chapter of the party? Leadership failure has muted the passion of followership
Godfatherism. We used the word godfatherism mildly and unapologetically to describe the rule of impunity in the Ikwuano PDP where certain individual(s) dictate and determine who should occupy what office be it party exco positions or elective offices. One wonders then if the style in PDP is autocracy and not democracy as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution. Ikwuano youths yearn to contest for positions, but on the guarantee that after wasting time and resources, they would not be shunted aside for the 'chosen one'. Would you provide such guarantee sir?
Equity. Searching for equity, due process and justice in Ikwuano PDP is like searching for needle in a haystack. Recall sir, that the absence of these virtues led to Ikwuano PDP losing the seat of member of the House of Representatives to the rival APC. If there is rule of law, rather than reign of demi-gods, the party definitely would be better for it
Development. In all spheres of development including rural road network, infrastructural and socio-economic development, Ikwuano has taken a back seat. Does it mean nobody speaks is for Ikwuano where it matters most - at the State Executive Council and Abia House of Assembly? What happens to Ikwuano LGA monthly FAAC allocations? After over 23 years of supporting PDP, what has Ikwuano got to show for it?
Able chairman, the centre can no longer
hold in Ikwuano PDP. But has it fallen apart fallen apart? No! Though you are not the Chief Executive Officer of Abia state, we know your enormous influence as the party leader. A word from you. A little tinkering here and there may just be the transfusion Ikwuano PDP needs to bounce back to life. Or do you prefer losing Ikwuano PDP to a rival party as you lead Abia PDP to 2023 General Election?
We wish you fruitful deliberations
Yours sincerely
Tony Icheku
