Four Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants from the Southeast – former Senate President Pius Anyim, one-time Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, businessman Sam Ohuabunwa and Dr. Anachukwu Anakwueze – were in Delta State

The pro-micro zoning aspirants paid a consultation visit to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital.

Okowa told his guests and other presidential aspirants to eschewing bitterness and embrace politics of friendship. He commended the quartet for the peaceful manner in which they were consulting about their aspiration.

He disclosed that the party (PDP) was, through the process of consultation, building peace and strength that would enable it come out stronger at the end of the day.

“They are all individually qualified on their own but we have come here to have some talks because they are very interested in how to cause Nigeria to come back to its feet.

“So, I truly want to thank them for the thought to start this level of consultation and they have met me not just as governor but as Chairman of the Southsouth Governors’ Forum.

“I have also urged that they should try to reach out to other states which l believe, that they will do.”

Anyim said that they were in Asaba to consult with the Chairman of the SouthSouth Governors’ Forum on their presidential aspiration under the platform of the PDP. At well my

He noted that the presidential aspirants from the Southeast met in Abuja and resolved to work together and further resolved to reach out to other zones in the country to make their case for the presidency of the country.

Anyim, who was Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, said the aspirants have decided to kick-off consultations from Southsouth.

He said: “We are, therefore, here to consult with the Southsouth zone through the Chairman of the zone, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on our aspiration.

“We had beautiful and useful discussions; we are pleased that the governor made out time to see us and we are very delighted for the fruitful discussions we have had.”

Obi, who later met with delegates in Delta, said the economy was unproductive because the debt burden.

According to him, insecurity across the land and agitation in the Niger-Delta would not have been headache to the government if investment had been made wisely.

He described as unfortunate that the economy has been hinged on a sharing rather than a productive formula.

The former governor urged delegates to vote him as flag bearer of the party for the presidential polls in 2023


The country is crippled because leaders have prioritised the sharing formula. We are owing more money than we can pay; we are no longer generating money.

“All we do is sharing. Nobody talks about production formula. That is what we want to change. This country ought to be productive, that is what I want us to do.”

Delta PDP Chairman Kingsley Esiso emphasized that the election was more about a leader that can make a difference than a politician who wants to hold power.
