The visit of Anambra-born socialite and philanthropist extraordinare, Obinna Iyiegbu popularly called Obi Cubana to the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is causing sleepless nights to some political stalwarts in the area. This follows political aspiration of Nnamdi Iyiegbu, the elder brother of Obi Cubana, to contest the 2023 House of Representatives' seat for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of the state.
Dailyledger.com.ng reports that some people believed the visit was a business call, while others see it as politically motivated, coming on the heels of declaration of Nnamdi Iyiegbu to contest for House of Representatives' seat.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Emeka Njeakor is reportedly feeling rattled by the political focus of the Cubana brothers . Njeakor observed that the Iyiegbu family members were already blessed, and would be facing real and imagined attacks from political opponents if they embraced politics..
According to him, those who go into politics set their eyes majorly on how to make money, become popular and alleviate poverty among the poor masses. He said by all standards, the Cubana brothers are fulfilled
But in a swift reaction, a media aide to Iyiegbu, the political aspirant, Peter Godswill said the political quest of Nnamdi Iyiegbu is to prove that politics should not be left in the hands of hungry and bad people only, adding that good and wealthy individuals should enter the game to change the narrative.
He noted that non-delivery of democracy dividends to the masses especially the Idemili North and South Federal constituents in the past is paramount in his entry into the race . According to him, people who are seen as having acquired wealth by the Grace of God, with which they assist the poor masses, award scholarship to indigents students without discrimination of place of origin as well as build infrastructures free of charge for the benefit of the masses are already doing those things a legislator or executive in office. He opined that only when many good people join politics, that they can out-number the bad elements who support anti-people policies and only remember their constituents only during elections.
Noting that the Iyiegbus have every reason to relate politically, he said the Cubanas have carved a niche and are well known in touching lives, empowering the needy, building roads, providing electricity, awarding scholarships to indigents students, providing street lights. Continuing, he disclosed that if anybody is already using his personal money to impact positively on the masses and society using his personal wealth, such a person should be the first choice to go to Abuja to effectively represent his constituents and bring the goodies down to his constituents. Those who are hungry and still looking for money cannot make good representatives of the people.
