Abia State Internal Revenue Service, ABiRS is finally taking steps to rein in the enfant terrible of  Internally Generated Revenue, IGR services in the State, Azubuike Ihuoma Erondu by slamming a suspension on him while he is investigated for malpractices ranging from flouting revenue collection regulations to other fraudulent activities.

Dailyledger.com.ng reports that ABiRS in a letter addressed to Erondu, titled 'Letter of Suspension of Appointment', dated June 23, 2022 and signed by its Acting Chairman/Chief Executive, Celestine B A Agbara, he was asked to immediately step aside as ABiRS Revenue Collection Agent.


"In line with the conditions of your letter of appointment, be informed that ABiRS has with immediate effect suspended your appointment pending further investigations", the letter stated.


The letter with reference number 'BIR/AD/AIE/VOL. 2/5'  stated that during its ABiRS'  quarterly performance appraisal, Erondu amongst other allegations, "Consistently carried on with collection of Unified Emblem without adopting ABiRS e-ticket/e-emblems, upload system; Flagrantly flouted laid down regulations, code of conduct, ethics in collection and enforcement of compliance of the revenue windows by collecting above amount authorised by ABiRS amongst others


 He allegedly attempted to prevent ABiRS from proceeding to quarterly review his performance; And engaging enforcers without recourse/clearance from ABiRS.


Erondu was further accused of entering into an understanding with  Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest Scheme, ASPIMS which runs contrary to th e terms if his appointment by ABiSR


Based on the above allegations, Erondu was ordered to immediately cease from my acting pending further investigations
