Chinedum Orji

Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum  Orji on  Saturday played Guest of Honour at the "2022 Au8 Home Coming Meeting" of the Afugiri Federated Union (Women's Wing), Umuahia.

The Speaker applauded the women for their unity of purpose in organising the event, describing it as a function of  the virtues inherent in the Afugiri woman.

He promised the people that the mini stadium he earlier  embarked upon at the venue of the meeting will be completed soon, and  fitted with seats and streetlights so that the women will hold their next August Meeting in the stadium's stands rather than setting up canopies, adding that  sports stars will emerge from the mini-stadium which will be named after the first Premier of Old Eastern Nigeria,  late Dr M.I. Okpara who hailed from the Ohuhu  clan, noting the array of other names eminently qualified for such gesture.

Hon  Orji reiterated that he will always answer the call of Ohuhu people anytime they call upon  him as he is one one of them. He added that  more progress for Ohuhu people will come with the opening and construction of more roads among other infrastructure for them and that this can only be possible when credible leaders like his humble self emerge on the forthcoming exercise.

According to the Speaker, the era of propaganda and political mischief is gone and  those who intend to  represent the people must be able to tell them as a matter of fact what they have done for the people and what they intend to do for them if elected into office.

Reacting to  the request of the women for  guests to assist in the reactivation of their dilapidated oil mill, Rt Hon  Orji promised to help them reconstruct their oil mill especially as  their request was business-oriented.

Earlier, in her opening address, President-General of the Union, Rev. Megwara Mary Ahudiya Nkemdirim welcomed the Speaker alongside all the guests present and thanked God for making the day possible despite challenges encountered.

She urged special guests to the ceremony to come to their aid by supporting them in rehabilitating their comatose oil mill and its building

She also urged the women to ensure that they take advantage of their numbers to enthrone credible leaders by performing their civic responsibilities as the 2023 General Elections approach.
