No fewer than 200 golfers are expected to take part in the Aba Sports Club 1926 Golf Section Captain’s Inaugural tournament in Aba, Abia.
Dailyledger.com.ng reports that the two-day tournament is scheduled to hold from Sept. 14 to Sept. 15 at the Aba Sports Golf Club.
Nduka Nwachukwu, the new Captain, Aba Sports Golf Club said on Tuesday in Abuja, that all was set for his as well as the new Lady Captain’s inaugural tournament with over 200 golfers from across the country expected to grace the event.
“I was elected on May 23 alongside my Lady Captain, Oluchi Ogejiofor to stir the ship of this great club for the next two years.
“As you are aware, it is a tradition in golf clubs to hold inaugural tournaments for both the incoming captain and Lady captain.
“So, we have our captain/Lady captain’s inaugural tournament coming up on Sept. 15 which is a two-day event.
“The arrival date as well as the practice round and cocktail is scheduled for Sept. 14.
“While the tournament proper will hold on Sept. 15 with the captain and Lady captain expected to be inaugurated at the end of the tourney,” he said.
Nwachukwu noted that the two-day 18 hole stroke play format event was an open tournament for all Nigerians.
He said that the Aba Sports Golf Course which will host the event, was indeed a very magnificent edifice with a serene and accommodating environment.
“Our club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Eastern Nigeria and has a very challenging course with tight fairways and a lot of colonial trees, as well as some new ones which were recently planted.
“The club recently accommodated and hosted over 237 golfers at the last Governor’s Cup and so we are prepared and ready to make this tourney an even bigger and memorable event,” he said.
He noted that beyond the beauty and serene environment of the golf course, was the commercial town which was the main attraction for visitors coming to Aba to play golf for the first time.
“The town boast of very good tailors who are always on ground to make and deliver wonderful custom-made clothes for our visitors within the shortest possible time.
“We also have those who specialize in making custom designed packaged shirts, belts and shoes.
“So, Aba is indeed a very big business centre/hub for the textile and leather industry which one can get for a far cheaper price that you cannot get in any other part of the country.
“These are the major attractions for our visitors coming to play golf in Aba and which indeed makes our club stand out above the rest,” he said.
