Nnamdi Kanu

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, l Tuesday, reserved judgment on the case against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Mike Ozekhome (SAN), lead counsel for  the IPOB leader, urged  the appellate court to review the April 8 ruling of the trial court which struck out only eight out of the 15 charges, and strike out the remaining charges

Kanu, in his appeal dated April 29 and marked CA/ABJ/CR/625/2022, had applied to be discharged and acquitted.

The  IPOB leader later filed for abridgement of time and  the  matter was brought forward for hearing today.

When the matter was called up Justice Jummai Hanatu, leading a three-man panel   said the substantive appeal was ripe for hearing, and the issue of bail would not be considered.

In his argument,  Ozekhome traced Kanu's   forceful abduction from Kenya and illegal extradition to Nigeria.

He told the court that his client was first arraigned on December 23, 2015 and was later granted bail on April 25, 2017.

He urged  the appellate court to review the April 8 ruling of the trial court which struck out only eight out of the 15 charges, and strike out the remaining charges

However,  the FG, through its lawyer, Mr. David Kaswe, urged the court to dismiss the appeal for want of merit.

He argued that the IPOB leader was brought back to the country through due process

After listening to both sides, the panel adjourned, saying that a date for ruling would be communicated to both parties.
