In a statement announcing the media tour, jointly signed by the State chairman and Secretary of OMPAN, Chief Paddy Anyatonwu and Steve Unegbu respectively, the Association stated that "The tour would enable the media practitioners review the developmental thrust of the LG administration and their impact on the people. It would also identify the challenges and impediments inherent in the LG system"
The statement described the tour as continuation of the resolve of the Press to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people
"It will further afford the LGA Executive chairmen the opportunity to interact with the media and proffer views on democratic impact in their respective domains
"The media will continue to subject political office holders to public scrutiny, analyse their policies as well as competences and as watchdogs of the society, OMPAN will not relent in playing her primary oversight role of speaking out to ensure everyone is playing by the rules and feeding the public with objective information to increase accountability in governance in Abia State" the statement submitted.
