The Abia Online Media Publishers, member of Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) plans  to  embark on fact-checking and  appraisal tour of  the  almost two years administration  of  the Executive chairmen of the 17 LGAs in Abia State.


In a statement announcing the media tour, jointly signed by the State chairman and Secretary of OMPAN,  Chief Paddy Anyatonwu and  Steve Unegbu respectively, the Association stated that "The  tour would enable the media practitioners  review the developmental   thrust of the LG administration and their impact on the people. It would also identify the challenges and impediments inherent in the LG system"


The statement described the tour as  continuation of the resolve of the Press to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people


"It  will further afford the LGA Executive chairmen the opportunity to interact with  the media and proffer views on  democratic impact in their respective domains


"The media will continue to subject political office holders to public scrutiny, analyse their policies as well as  competences and as watchdogs of the society,  OMPAN will not relent in playing her primary oversight role of speaking out  to  ensure everyone is playing by the rules and feeding the public with objective information to increase accountability in  governance in Abia State" the statement submitted.
