Gregory University, Uturu, GUU on Friday, Oct 28, 2022, announced the promotion of Dr Uwaoma Kalu Uche to Professor, up from Associate Professor (Reader).
The letter of promotion from entitled: Promotion to the rank of Professor of Mass Communication dated 28th Oct. 28, 2022, Ref: GUU/REG/SARP/U U/ PRM/10/2022, addressed to Dr Uwaoma Uche, Department of Mass Communication, College of Social and Management Science signed by the Registrar of the University, Pastor Chukwuemeka Idika made available to newsmen in Umuahia, amongst others states "..that the Governing Council has approved your promotion from Reader to the rank of a Professor of Mass Communication (Broadcast Management)".
It would be recalled that prior to the announcement, Uwaoma Kalu Uche, was an Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication, Gregory University, Uturu.
Professor Uche who is currently the head of Department of Mass Communication, Gregory University, Uturu has authored 8 books, edited 7 books with 64 articles in local and peer reviewed international journals.
Prof Uche has had a chequered career in the media sector including serving as the former presenter with Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, Calabar.
He had also served as the Head of Mass Communication in various Polytechnics and Universities includingPolytechnic Calabar, Abia State University Uturu, Temple Gate Polytechnic Aba, Abia State Polytechnic Aba ,Rhema University Aba and Gregory University Uturu respectively.
He also taught and facilitated the setting up of Mass Communication departments Renaissance University Ugbawka, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar Hezekiah University, Umudim, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Rhema University Aba,Abia State University Uturu, Gregory University, of Uturu,
Prof Uche is a Fellow of the Institute of Policy Development Management,Abia State Chairman, Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria,Life Member Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International and President Abiapoly Chapter of the Flight. He was Former ASUU Secretary General, Abia State University Chapter,
He had also served as former Special Aide to Gov Orji Uzor Kalu, Gov T A Orji and Gov Okezie Ikpeazu respectively,
He was former University orator in Abia State University, and Publicity Secretary, Ihechiowa Development Union for the past 10 years.
Prof Uche attended Ebem Primary School Ohafia, Enuda Primary School, Abiriba Umunnabuo Primary School, Ihechiowa and Edo College, Benin City
He also University of Calabar where he obtained BA (Hons)1989, MA (1994)and PhD (2016)specializing in Broadcast Management
He is happily married to Mrs Peculiar Uwaoma Uche, a legal practitioner and they are blessed with two children who are undergraduates in the University.
