It was giddy moments of glory for the Deputy Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Comrade Cookey Nwachukwu on Tuesday, October 18 when the entire 19 Legislative Councillors trooped to his office and literally held up a mirror for him to see himself as an emerging pragmatic leader and a rare gift to the incumbent LG administration
The Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Obinna Agaodi in his remarks, described the meeting as one aimed at creating synergizing with the Deputy Chairman on pertinent matters that concern the LGA. He further admonished the Deputy Chairman to maintain his steadfastness as the present administration rounds up, adding that by finishing strong, he would etch his name on the pages of history
In his remarks, the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Charles Ifeanyi Ugboajah, applauded the leadership qualities of the Deputy Chairman, noting that he has approached leadership with a blend of empathy and pragmatism.
Equally speaking, the Chief Whip of the Council, Hon. Samson Onyedikachi Godspower described the Deputy Chairman as a selfless leader who carries the youth along in the discharge of his duties, while simultaneously ensuring that unity exists among the youths.
The Majority leader of the House, Hon. Precious Ajuzie in her remarks commended the consistency of the Deputy Chairman in his approach to duties since the inception of the present administration. She however appealed that more should be done to enhance the already established synergy between the two arms of government.
Not left out, the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Dennis Ekwerike cited a myriad of examples in which the Deputy Chairman showed rare leadership qualities throughout this administration. He further noted that the Deputy Chairman has placed the good of the LG on the front burner and urged him to maintain such positive stance even beyond this administration.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Agaodi summing up the sentiments expressed by his colleagues urged the Deputy Chairman to remain steadfast and courageous as his leadership style impacts positively on all he encounters, and endears admiration of the people.
He further enjoined the Deputy Chairman to work assiduously to deliver the candidates of the PDP in the state, from the gubernatorial candidate, Professor Eleazar Ikonne; The Abia Central Senatorial candidate, Col. Austin Akobundu; the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency candidate, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji and the Ikwuano State House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi.
While responding, the Deputy Chairman, Comr. Cookey Lordson Nwachukwu appreciated the eulogies and admonitions from the legislators. He said that beyond his capacities as the number two citizen, the efforts and fatherly guidance from the number one citizen of the LG, Chief Stephen Mpamaugo has been very instrumental in guiding his conduct.
He added that before the beginning of the present administration, he has maintained cordial relationship with virtually all the councilors, pointing out that he got acquainted with the leader of the house, Hon. Agaodi during the day of their student unionism. He added that beyond his leadership responsibilities, he has always strived to retain and strengthen relationships with everyone regardless of their background.
Commenting on the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, the Comrade Nwachukwu described that the candidates fielded by the PDP as the most competitive among other candidates. He further elucidated on the divergent capacities of the candidates which are capable of placing the state at an enviable height in the nation.
According to him, no other gubernatorial candidate in Abia state matches the leadership prowess of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Professor Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne, and neither does any other candidate qualify to effectively represent the people of Abia Central Senatorial district at the red chambers other than Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd).
The Deputy Chairman also noted that based on his positive antecedents, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji remains the most qualified to represent the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency.
Speaking on the candidate that represents his immediate constituent, the Deputy Chairman noted that the incumbent House member has shown quality representation through his evidential projects which are spread across the four clans in Ikwuano. He noted that Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi remains the most capable candidate for the Ikwuano State Constituency seat.
The Deputy Chairman who was presented with a gift of his portrait, dedicated the portrait to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu as his symbolic gift to mark the governor's 58th years birthday which coincided with the visit..
