Chief Okechukwu Ahiwe, the immediate past Chief of Staff to  Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has emerged Abia PDP Governorship candidate with 469 voted cast for him even as three other aspirants stepped down for him at the ongoing primary currently holding at Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia

The three aspirants include Barr Bob Ogu, Chief Eric Opah and Mrs Ezinwanyi Jonah.


In the voting which followed, Ahiwe  polled a total number of 469 to defeat his closet rivals the Deputy Governor of the state,  Hon Ude Oko-chukwu and Mr Lucky Igbokwe who scored 12 votes each.


Others who participated in process includes former chairman of the party Senator Emma Nwaka, who scored no vote, a former House of Assembly members Sampson Orji, who polled 11 votes.


A total number of 516 votes were cast during the special congress, 12 votes were declared invalid.


The chairman of the Abia PDP special convention and governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki,  declared the winner.




Earlier in his speech state PDP chairman  Alwell Asiforo Okere, said the a special convention became necessary following the death of the deceased Governorship candidate of the party Prof Uche Ikonne.


"We are very confident that the   team led by Obaseki, will do a good job because the party know the kind of man he is before sending him. 


In his acceptance speech Ahaiwe, thanked the party and delegates for finding him worthy fly the party colour.


The special convention was monitored by a team from the Independent National Electoral commission led by Mr Festus Okoye
