Sen. Godswill Akpabio

By Ejiofor Ogudu

The Good Governance Support Group for Godswill Akpabio, today, June 12, 2023, reiterated their support for Godswill Akpabio to emerge as the Senate President of the 10th Senate, at a well-attended press conference held at the NUJ press center in Abuja, the Nation’s capital.

Speaking at the event, Dr John Harry, the National Co-coordinator of the group, said pointedly that even though the group obviously has a bias for the Akpabio quest, their bias was not necessarily a function of zoning, but based on the three C’s of Competence, Capacity and Carriage.

“Even as we thank our great party for zoning the office to the South South of Nigeria and do implore all APC elected Senators to respect party supremacy in this endeavor, please permit me to explain our bias

“In truth, and only the truth, our bias is borne of the fact that Godswill Obot Akpabio represents Competence, Capacity and Carriage. This is not a forum to read the citation of this great Akwa Ibom Son. His indelible landmark dotted on the political skies of Akwa Ibom State serves as eloquent testimony

“Who doesn’t know his capacity as a former Governor, former Senate Minority Leader and former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?”

Harry insisted that the event was not however a time to read Akpabio’s biography but a time to ‘speak directly to the 109 achievers who are set to make another leg of history tomorrow. It is a time to appeal to the other distinguished gentlemen and women elected on the platform of the other political parties to sheath narrow parochial or partisan considerations for the overall success of our national voyage’

Also speaking at the event, Senator Clever Ikisikpo, one of the grand patrons of the group, dispelled rumors that Akpabio was depending on the support of the Party and the Government, insisting that the group and many other groups has since been talking to senators-elect from all over the country on the Akpabio quest.

Hon Patty Etete, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the group also lent his voice to calls by diverse peoples, not to lose the opportunity tomorrow, to make history, by electing a man of proven leadership credentials like Akpabio.

“My plea is that we besiege Senators-elect from our various constituencies, like we have been doing for a long time and impress on them, the need to recognize sterling leadership by voting in Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th Senate. Nigeria should not lose this opportunity,” he said.
