The Leader of Ikwuano LG chapter of Labour Party, LP, Dr Monday Ubani on Sunday dismissed as unbecoming of a leader, the letter of 'disclaimer and withdrawal of consent' for nominees to Ikwuano LGA Transition Committee, TC by the LG chairman, Mr Bright Chimezie Nwagbo.
In his reaction to dailyledger.com.ng publication on the matter, Dr Ubani said the meeting were the TC ominations were made was made comprised all stakeholders and the resolutions were arrived at in a democratic manner. "I am surprised by the letter from our LG chairman stating he is withdrawing his consent to the nominations. When he signed three weeks ago, was a gun put to his head to force him sign his signature?
"Nwagbo was part of the deliberations, as well as our House of Assembly member, Hon Boniface Isienyi, everybody who should present was represented. It is not every decision of the party that should be brought for every member to make input.
"I, as leader of the party did not nominate any one, but Nwagbo nominated some members for the TC. So at what point did he have a change of mind and decided to reverse his position.
"Like I advised earlier, our people should be calm and watch things unfold. Everybody is being carried along " Dr Ubani told dailyledger.com.ng .
The LG party chairman, has distanced himself from the list of nominees for the TC positions in a letter titled 'Letter of Disclaimer and Withdrawal of Consent", dated June 23, 2023.
According to Nwagbo, any list presented by any individual or group of persons on behalf of Ikwuano LP as nominees for Transition Committee should be disregarded as it does not carry the aspirations and overall interest of LP and entire people of Ikwuano.
Nwagbo explained in his disclaimer letter explained that he was coerced to sign a letter declaring that the nominees emerged through due process. He added that the LG Executive and Ten- Ward chairman who comprises the LG Working Committee were not part of the decision as enunciated by the rules and guidelines of LP constitution.
Dailyledger.com.ng gathered that at the root of the unfolding intrigues is a fight for the soul of the LG chapter of the party between the 'big boys' who claim to have funded the party during the election and the grassroots members who counter that they were the foot soldiers who toiled to market LP and Alex Otti before the 'big boys' emerged on the scene.
