Calm now reigns in Ikwuano LG chapter of the Labour Party, LP as it's chairman, Mr Bright Chimezie Nwagbo has withdrawn his 'Letter of Disclaimer and Withdrawal of Consent" for nominees of the proposed Transition Committee for the LG
Rising from a meeting with the LG Executives, the State Chairman of LP, Mr Ceekay Igara told Dailyledger.com.ng that the .letter had been withdrawn by its writer as there was no justification for it in the first place
"The LG chairman was present in a properly convened meeting, he made contributions, and even nominated four persons for the TC. Three weeks later, he is singing a different song and writing letters. I overruled him and asked that he withdraw the letter, and he accepted. For now the status quo remains", he confirmed.
The State party boss further noted that Nwagbo neither dialogued with anybody or sought further clarifications when he thought about backing out of earlier agreed position, "No, things are not done that way", he opined
Dailyledger.com.ng reports that Nwagbo's letter of 'disclaimer and withdrawal of consent' for the TC nominees created disquiet in the party raising concerns among the stakeholders who were caught off guard by the letter.
In his reaction the Leader of Ikwuano LG LP, Dr Monday Ubani dismissed the letter as unbecoming of a leader, explaining that the meeting where the TC ominations were made was made comprised all stakeholders and the resolutions were arrived at in a democratic manner. "I am surprised by the letter from our LG chairman stating he is withdrawing his consent to the nominations. When he signed three weeks ago, was a gun put to his head to force him sign his signature?
"Nwagbo was part of the deliberations, as well as our House of Assembly member, Hon Boniface Isienyi, everybody who should present was represented. It is not every decision of the party that should be brought for every member to make input.
"I, as leader of the party did not nominate any one, but Nwagbo nominated four members for the TC. So at what point did he have a change of mind and decided to reverse his position.
"Like I advised earlier, our people should be calm and watch things unfold. Everybody is being carried along " Dr Ubani told dailyledger.com.ng .
Nwagbo had in his letter alleged that any list presented by any individual or group of persons on behalf of Ikwuano LP as nominees for Transition Committee should be disregarded as it does not carry the aspirations and overall interest of LP and entire people of Ikwuano.
He further alleged that he was coerced to sign a letter declaring that the nominees emerged through due process. He added that the LG Executive and Ten- Ward chairman who comprises the LG Working Committee were not part of the decision as enunciated by the rules and guidelines of LP constitution.
