Rt Hon Martin Azubuike 


Some Abia APC Stakeholders rose from a closed door meeting over the weekend affirming that Rt Hon Martins Azubuike posseses the requisite experience and capacity to occupy the position of APC's vacant National Welfare Secretary which became vacant due to the death of late Barr. Friday Nwosu and vowed to give him the necessary support to emerge. 


"In line with the requirements needed for officers in the re-constitution of APC's leadership at the national level, Rt. Hon. Azubuike has what it takes to add value to the position he has been nominated for. He is a trusted, tested and a capable party man with impeccable grassroots credentials", sources from the meeting proffered.




Following the vacancies at the APC's National Working Committee, NWC., leading to the replacement of it's National Chairman and National Secretary respectively, Rt Hon Martins Azubuike was nominated by Abia APC Stakeholders for the position of National Welfare Secretary. 


The meeting which held at the home of one of Abia APC's chieftains in Umuahia attracted who is who in the state chapter of the party, and the sole agenda centered on confirmation of the former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly as the State's nominee for the position.




The sources who spoke off-record explained that though consultations were still on-going, the Stakeholders reached a consensus that  Rt Hon. Azubuike  rates far ahead other candidates suggested for the position in terms of political precedents and loyalty to the Tinubu/Shettima administration.


 "It would not be in Abia's interest to present a bench warmer for the NWC position, besides serving as Speaker, Rt Hon Azubuike was also the Deputy Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria. He was a Governorship aspirant in 2019 under APC, in the party primary election and  later became the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in 2019  General Elections, if you talk of  loyalty and faithfulness to the party, Azubuike is number, the source added 


" He was equally visible and played sensitive and active roles during the campaigns for the 2023 Presidential Election, and served in various capacities including serving as Abia State Coordinator, Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council; Chairman, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Solidarity Vanguard, ( BATS-Vanguard) and Abia State Coordinator, Jagaban National Coalition, (JNC), Co-Director, Humanitarian Directorate, Project 774 for Tinubu/Shettima, amongst others.


"Azubuike will be an asset to APC National leadership, his wealth of experience and huge network of contacts are exactly the requisite value needed now in the emerging leadership of the party ", the source argued.


Another chieftain of the party who reacted to the process of the replacements explained that every member of the party is being carried along. "The replacement process has  not flouted any constitutional process, we are replacing our Officers of the NWC through consensus which is how the National Chairman and National Secretary emerged, thereafter the process would be ratified by the National Working Committee as directed by the National Executive Committee. It’s a period to stabilise affairs in the party, and it is being done by consensus and unanimity, he explained.
