The Charge de Affairs of High Commission of Pakistan, Mr Riaz Hussain Chughtai on Thursday urged  the international community to ensure the end of the rule of tyranny and oppression in Kashmir in a signed statement to mark the Kashmir Black Day celebrated by Kashmiris across the world.


The day is marked annually on October 27  as ‘Black Day’ to express solidarity and support with Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.


Multiple UN Resolutions have unambiguously declared that the final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir will be made in accordance with the will of the people expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations. 


According to the statement by the envoy: “Numerous international, UN organisations as well as UN Special Rapporteurs have reported gross human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.”


He noted that “Jammu and Kashmir has been converted into world’s most militarized zone and the largest prison on earth.”


He insisted that: “Kashmiris around the world demand that International community including United Nations and it’s relevant Human Rights Machinery, Civil Society Organizations, Media Houses and other defenders of Human Rights to fulfill their obligations towards besieged Kashmiris by playing their part to end the rule of tyranny and oppression.”


According to current status and political divisions, India has control of about half the area of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which comprises Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, while Pakistan controls a third of the region, divided into two provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.


The conflict for the zone started after the partition of India in 1947 as both India and Pakistan claimed the entirety of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a dispute over the region that escalated into three wars between India and Pakistan and several other armed skirmishes.
