Ikwuano Local Government Transition Chairman, Mayor of Ikwuano, Hon. Osinachi Nwaka on Tuesday embarked on proactive moves towards a quick resolution of the students unrest at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, located in the LG


Mayor Nwaka, accompanied by a delegation of key stakeholders including the Deputy Mayor,   Hon. Charles Ugboajah; Dr. Anyadiegwu Uzondu, President-General of the Ikwuano Development Union Federated, IDU--F , and Engr. Longinus Agbakwo, engaged in a high-level discussion with MOUAU's Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe focused  on devising strategic interventions to de-escalate the tense situation and restore harmony within the University community as soon as possible

The Ikwuano Mayor, recognizing the disruptive impact of prolonged ASUU strikes and the enduring challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, expressed deep concerns for the educational welfare of the students and therefore appealed for urgency in reaching a common ground through constructive dialogue. He  urged all parties to exercise restraint while pursuing a peaceful resolution.


Nwaka assures stakeholders of his commitment towards monitoring the situation closely and implementing measures to address the grievances raised by the students. 


He further conveyed the steadfast support of the Abia State government, under the visionary leadership of Abia State Governor Alex Otti  in swiftly intervening to ensure the welfare and academic progress of the students.


 Nwaka also  emphasized the paramount importance of collaboration and unity among all stakeholders and  urged all to embrace collective action in charting a way  forward that fosters an environment conducive to learning and academic excellence


MOUAU VC, Prof Iwe in his response reiterated his position in the statement he had earlier issued which absolved students of the violent unrest


He informed the Ikwuano Mayor that as path of measures to restore normalcy, he had shut down the University indefinitely to identify sources of the security breach which enabled persons he described as miscreants to nearly overrun the school., "MOUAU students are peaceful and orderly and could not have been behind what we witnessed today", he reiterated.
