Ahead the coming farming and rainy seasons, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Hon Osinachi Nwaka has jump started grading of rural roads inter-connecting communities and farm settlements in the LG considered the food basket of Abia State.
In his remarks prior to commencement of the massive roads palliative, the Ikwuano Mayor noted that some of the roads abandoned for over thirty years has fallen into total disrepair leading to low productivity in farm produce due to lack of access roads to convey produce from farms to markets and total abandonment of some farms in some extreme cases
"We hope by tackling the rural roads infrastructural challenges in these communities, we would unlock the potentials in these agrarian communities and foster economic expansion which would enhance the overall quality of life of residents", he said
Key roads slated for grading in this second phase of the project include but are not limited to:
i. Iyinla - Umuemenike - Obohia road
ii. Ndoro - Nnono - Amaoba link road
iii. Itunta - Obuoro link road
iv. Eze Ben Oriaku road
v. Obunta road.
According to Mayor Nwaka, the roads are pivotal conduits facilitating smoother movement of goods, services, and people throughout the LG and beyond.
He added that by rejuvenating these neglected thoroughfares, the administration seeks to invigorate local economies, empower communities, and foster inclusive development across the LG and beyond
