The executive of traditional rulers of MOUAU and National Root Crops Research Institute, NRCRI land donor communities has paid a solidarity visit to Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the MOUAU Vice Chancellor following the students protest which rocked the University last week.


The traditional ruler of Umudike and Chairman of the Traditional Rulers of NRCRI/MOUAU land donor communities HRH Eze Ben Oriaku, who  led the delegation said the visit was to get first hand information on what led to the riot.


Speaking after the visit, Eze Oriaku argued that elements he described as  corrupt minded staff of the institution might have masterminded the protest. 


According to him, the corrupt members of staff who were beneficiaries of the manual system before it was converted to a digital system instigated the protest


He added that they found out that 70 percent of the students have paid their fees and their biometrics captured.


 The traditional ruler also noted that the fencing of the university which was done to prevent hoodlums from gaining access into the school also provoked the disgruntled elements, who pulled down the fence during the protest.


Eze Oriaku appealed to the Vice Chancellor to always carry  the land donor communities traditional rulers along until peace and harmony is restored in the university.


In his remarks , the immediate past deputy chairman of Abia State traditional rulers council, HRM Eze Godfrey Onwuka, urged  the Vice Chancellor and his  management team to convene a round table discussion with the students so that the school will resume in no distant time, to enable the school calendar continue to flow undistorted.


 Prof. Iwe in his response appreciated the land donor communities traditional rulers for coming to identify with the institution over the incident. He  affirmed that the royal fathers are  the University’s stakeholders, and urged them to educate their wards and children on taking the proper channels of communication with constituted authorities before embarking on protests
