The effervescent Valentine Lovers Day is one couples often look forward to, to whisper sweet nothings into each others ears and exchange gifts, but not widows. That day, they would be merely observers as others bubble and frolick.
But the first lady of Ikwuano LG, Mrs Patricia Ossy-Nwaka made the 2024 Valentine day a special one for Ikwuano widows.
''Weep no more, help is here", she declared to over 120 widows who gathered in the spacious home of the LG Transition Committee Chairman, Hon Osinachi Nwaka, for a special celebration of the lovers day.
In the special programme tagged "Ikwuano Widows Weep No More", Mrs Ossy-Nwaka prayed, and counselled the widows urging them to look up optimism because the showers of blessings ushered in the Governor Alex Otti administration would surely reach all and sundry.
The Ikwuano first lady enumerated the various intervention and social welfare packages already unveiled, even as she noted that more would soon be unveiled.
"The government of Dr Alex Otti is running an inclusive government where everyone, irrespective of gender or age would benefit", she said and pointed out that few weeks ago, the Abia First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti empowered hundreds of elderly women from all LGAs in the State, including Ikwuano with a package of N100,000.
She also added that at the LG level, a special outreach programme, 'Thank God It's Friday, TGIF targeting artisan and technicians who are People With Disability, PWDs was unveiled where they would be given reasonable amount of money to support their and boost their businesses
On Mrs Ossy-Nwaka further reminded the widows that a 24/7 Emergency Patrol had been inaugurated to boost security and special emergencies.
"I want to assure you that more dividends of democracy awaits us under the government of Gov Alex Otti, because light has finally come to Ikwuano and Abia State. Please I want to encourage us to always pray and support the government of Gov Alex Otti under the Labour Party, pray for our sweet mother, Mrs Priscilla Otti. Pray for my husband, Hon Osinachi Nwaka that God should empower them with long life, wisdom and strength to carry Abia State and Ikwuano to the next level because God always hear the prayers of women, especially widows.
"We called you all out on a special day like this to put smiles on your faces and to reassure you that God has not forgotten you, and that the government of Dr Alex Otti will favour you all, only exercise a little patience, if you don't benefit today, you will surely benefit tomorrow. We will meet from time to time in gatherings like this. Once again I encourage you all to keep hope alive, have faith in God and above all 'fear God' for He that keepeth thee neither sleeps nor slumbers. I wish you all a happy Valentine" she concluded.
