The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), overturning a  decision by  a Federal High Court, Abuja  that restrained him and two others from occupying the positions.

Justice Hamma Barka in her judgement  ruled that the lower court had overstepped its jurisdiction in the matter, setting aside its earlier decision.

The Appellate judge further ordered a cost of ₦1 million to be paid in favor of Abure and against Lamidi Apapa, the respondent in the case.

Dailyledger.com.ng reports that Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal High Court, Abuja had granted an ex-parte order prohibiting Abure and the two others  from occupying leadership positions within the party on allegations of document forgery.

The legal tango between Abure and Apapa began  after the 2023 presidential election, where LP’s Peter Obi finished third, with Lamidi laying claims to the National chairmanship of the party

The dispute led to Abure's arrest on March 21, 2024,  in Benin City, Edo State, under controversial circumstances and he was  being manhandled by the police which  accused him of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and related offenses.

However, following protests by LP leadership including Mr Peter Obi  led to his release  on bail the next day.
