The pro-good governance and political mobilisation organisation, For Us By Us, FUBU on Saturday charged two lawmakers, Hon Boniface Isienyi and Hon Obi Aguocha to be up and doing and begin to fulfil their campaign promises to the people.


"The silence and inactivity from the duo of Hon Boniface Isienyi, representing Ikwuano State Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly and Hon Obi Aguocha representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives is worrisome. In this period of economic uncertainty when the government is doing all within its power to ameliorate the effects of the economic downturn, these gentlemen representing us are nowhere to be found. Since their swearing in and resumption, they have distanced themselves from the people, no interaction, no meetings, just silence. This is clearly unacceptable",  says FUBU facilitator, Ugwumba Chika Ishionwu  in an exclusive interview with dailyledger.com.ng.


Ishionwu urged the lawmakers to borrow a leaf from the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano LG, Hon Osinachi Nwaka who he maintained is showing casing proactive and transformative leadership 


"From my immediate constituency, I am quite elated with what the Chairman of my local government council chairman, Hon Osinachi Nwaka, Mayor of Ikwuano LG is doing in terms of reaching out to people living with disability, PLWD, widows and other vulnerable members of society. 


"Ordinarily, these are people both government and the privileged members of society seems to careless about. They are often left out in the cold, but suddenly here is Hon Nwaka thinking about them especially in this period of economic turbulence.


"Hon Nwaka is also opening up almost forgotten rural roads leading to our farms and connecting communities. But we know there is a lot more that needs to be done, and resources are limited, it's on this note I am calling out the member representing us in the House of Assembly, Hon Boniface Isienyi and the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.


"I have not seen the can-do Labour Party spirit in them so far. There is a lot the lawmakers  using legislative and budgeting processes can do positively to influence the economic situation  including inflation, extreme poverty, and mitigating the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies.


"We at FUBU are not entirely satisfied with Hon Isienyi and Hon Aguocha, yes, we are not happy with them. And our questions are many: Are they overwhelmed with the job or simply indifferent to our challenges? Quality leadership is essential to proffer solutions to inflation, unemployment, transparency and accountability in Governance, but we do not appear to be getting such from the duo of Isienyi and Aguocha. There are low hanging fruits they can reach out for to show they understand their business", he argued.


Ishionwu who is also a businessman and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Harida  Haulage Limited with offices in Abuja and Cape Town, South Africa spoke further on the message he sent to members of his organisation titled 'Marching Forward With Perseverance'


"I essentially wish to motivate our people to remain determined, focused and optimistic, and in this new month, March, I just played on the word 'March'. And my desire is for those who are tired, overburdened by different worries to be up and doing, and to march forward to a new day. Marching forward should not be an aimless movement, they must be willing to persevere despite the odds, and they must not give up....you know what our youths are saying on the streets '...no agree for anybody this year' that should be the spirit, but targeted at factors attempting to pull us down 


"Right  now, the challenges staring Nigerians in the face seems insurmountable, but personally, my life's philosophy is never say never or putting it another way, 'never yield ground to challenges'. But I know we are not all wired the same way and that is where government comes in - to support it's citizens and get them back on their feet", the youthful good governance advocate said.
