President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in a  reconstitution of the Governing Councils and Boards of Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education,  appointed Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof Monica Ironkwe as member,  Governing Council of Federal University of Technology, Owerri,  Imo State, (FUTO)and  retired General Ike Nwachukwu appointed as Chairman Governing Council, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.

Also appointed include Chief Henry Ikoh as Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Imo State and Comrade Fidelis Edeh as chairman Governing Council Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

The new list approved by President Tinubu was conveyed in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the governing councils and boards of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions across the country,” the statement said

Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, rejected the previous 555-man governing council, saying the list does not meet the union’s demands for the reinstatement of previously dissolved boards.

ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke said that the council was illegally dissolved before the expiration of their tenure.

The list comprises five names each for 51 universities, 35 polytechnics, and 22 colleges of education
